Introduction to Pilates For Beginners

Developed my Joseph Pilates, Pilates is a fusion of routines from yoga and gymnastics, with breathing exercises and weight training in the purpose of achieving proper body alignment. It's one of the most popular fitness trends nowadays because it can help you make long, lean muscles and have sculpted body. Pilates is believed to not only condition the body, but also the mind. Pilates routines aims to make the abdominal muscles strong specially focusing on the small muscles which are ignored most of the times during weight training. These small muscles support the bigger muscles.
One of the good of benefits of pilates for beginners is its adaptability to different types of body and fitness levels. Pilates for beginners can be modified to meet specific needs of individuals. A beginner needs to decide to either have pilates in a group, or have a private lesson. However, it is advisable to have private lessons in pilates for beginners. If you cannot afford to have private lesson, you can always buy DVDs, books, or get instructions online on pilates for beginners.
Pilates for beginners require a little preparation. Before starting a class, you may need to buy your personal mat. Mat for pilates is a bit thicker compared to a yoga mat. Also, you need to bring a water bottle to keep you hydrated before and during the class. The dress you wear for pilates workout should also be taken into consideration. It should allow you to move freely and stretch fully. Avoid wearing baggy clothes. The instructor must be able to check how your muscles engage during exercise and he must see your bone alignment.
In addition, you must avoid wearing excess accessories during work out. They are unnecessary and can distract you. It may able be dangerous when your long necklace or bracelets get caught up on the equipments. Likewise, long hair should tied back and must not cover your face. Fancy shoes are not needed because pilates is done barefoot. It is also common for pilates studio to request clients not to wear strong scents or perfumes because many people are sensitive to strong scents.
There's no better preparation that you can do than reading ahead about pilates for beginners. There are lots of terminologies that you will encounter during workout. For example, you will surely hear the phrase, "Neutral spine". This means that you should be in natural position to align your body parts."Zip it up" means you need to pull all your abdominal muscles towards the center by dropping your chest and engaging the pelvic muscles. These will be explained by the instructor, but reading will give you a good head start.
Pilates is a holistic approach to improve one's well-being. More than toning the muscles, it can also free your mind and spirit. It lets you to be more aware of your body and helps reduce stress and anxiety. I can also help manage depression.
